HYDRAA and CMC Raze Nine Unauthorised Buildings in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli

Civic authorities launched a major enforcement drive in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli, identifying 38 unauthorised buildings and demolishing nine structures following the collapse of a seven-storey building on Saturday. The collapse had left an adjacent structure in a precarious condition, prompting immediate intervention by the CMC and HYDRAA to prevent further loss of life and property.

The enforcement operation specifically targets constructions on plots below 75 square yards where building height exceeds seven metres, as well as structures on plots above 75 square yards that were built without requisite permissions, regardless of height. During the drive, enforcement teams served 28 unauthorised construction notices and sealed one building.

CMC Commissioner G Srijana directed town planning and enforcement personnel to detect illegal constructions through both citizen complaints and suo motu inspections, and to proceed with demolitions. Daily monitoring has been instituted to ensure sustained action against rule violations across the area.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the demolition activities on Monday. He noted that preventive measures were necessary due to the severe risks posed by unstable structures. The inspection of surrounding properties was triggered after local residents flagged several other buildings as being in dangerous condition.

Officials found that multiple seven- and eight-storey structures had been erected on plots measuring barely 50 square yards. In other instances, property owners who obtained approvals for only two floors went on to add additional levels without authorisation. Some structures had also encroached upon a local flood channel.

Ranganath stated that these illegal constructions raise serious concerns regarding structural safety. He affirmed that action against non-compliant buildings would continue while ensuring that adjoining properties are not endangered. Demolition work on the damaged buildings is being executed cautiously to avoid destabilising neighbouring houses. As a safety measure, residents living in vulnerable buildings were evacuated.
