Hyderabad trims security for 300 people including DGP CV Anand and former police chiefs

The Security Review Committee has recently downgraded the security cover of nearly 300 individuals in Hyderabad, including Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand and several former police chiefs. The decision was made following the eradication of the CPI (Maoist) threat in the region, which has significantly altered the threat perception for many high-profile figures.

Under the new directives, the police department will withdraw bulletproof vehicles and reduce the number of gunmen and other security personnel assigned to select protectees. The security adjustments were finalized after the Security Review Committee (SRC) convened a meeting recently, marking the first such review after a gap of three years.

A total of 382 policemen who were previously deployed for VIP security duties have already been withdrawn from their specific assignments. According to officials, these personnel will be reassigned to other active policing responsibilities in the coming days.

The SRC, which periodically reviews the threat perception of VIPs, consists of the DGP, the Additional DG (Intelligence), and representatives from the Intelligence Security Wing (ISW). It also includes officials from the state home department, the Intelligence Bureau, and other key intelligence agencies.

During the latest meeting, the committee systematically reviewed the security cover provided to both serving and former police officers, as well as various public representatives.

Among those affected by the security downgrade are 20 former DGPs. The list of former police chiefs whose security details were trimmed includes M Mahendar Reddy, Anurag Sharma, Swaranjit Sen, Arvind Rao, Jitender, and Shivadhar Reddy.

The scaling down of security is being implemented based on the updated threat assessments conducted by the committee, which concluded that the diminished presence of the CPI (Maoist) group no longer justifies the previous levels of high-security deployment.
