Hyderabad Startup Apollyon Dynamics Tests Jet UAV Launched From Moving Car

Hyderabad-based startup Apollyon Dynamics has successfully launched its jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the ADX-1, from the roof of a moving car as part of efforts to develop indigenous defence technology.

The company was founded in a hostel by two 21-year-old fourth-year B Tech students from Hyderabad. The startup is developing the drone platform to help reduce India's reliance on imported target drones utilised for military training.

According to the founders, the ADX-1 platform can be configured as a kamikaze drone or fitted with sensors and avionics to serve as a target or decoy simulating threats such as the S-400 and Akash missile systems during military exercises.

Jayant Khatari, co-founder of Apollyon Dynamics, said the startup is the only company in India and among very few globally working on launching a jet UAV from a moving vehicle. Khatari noted that initial test launches of the combat UAV were conducted from a vehicle-mounted platform under controlled conditions with safety protocols in place, helping move the platform closer to operational readiness.

The startup initially built prototypes using 3D-printed components before transitioning to carbon-fibre construction. Following multiple failed launches and crashes that helped refine the design, the team is currently working on the electronic systems and avionics required to complete the ADX-1.
