HYDERABAD — Urban residents in Hyderabad are increasingly adopting scent-based relaxation methods to unwind at home after busy, screen-heavy days, according to a report by Ruchi Rai Agarwal on June 8, 2026.

The practice involves using items such as incense sticks, essential oils, and scented candles to establish calmer living environments. This trend is helping local homeowners transition away from digital distractions and support their digital detox habits after long hours of screen exposure.

According to the report, different scents are being utilized to set specific moods in the household. Lavender and sandalwood are commonly preferred during the evening hours to aid relaxation. In contrast, citrus and eucalyptus fragrances are frequently used during the daytime to promote a fresher and more alert feeling.

Shreya Ranjan, a yoga coach in the city, has integrated these fragrance-based methods into her daily routine to combat the stress of a hectic schedule.

"I usually light a candle or use a diffuser after work, it just makes my room feel calmer instantly," Ranjan said. "Even 10 minutes with a mild fragrance helps me slow down after a hectic day."

For many residents, incorporating scents into bedtime routines has become a crucial step in disconnecting from their devices. Instead of looking at screens late into the night, individuals are turning off their electronics and letting calming fragrances fill their rooms.

This shift serves as a physical signal to the brain that it is time to rest, helping people step away from constant notifications and digital noise.
