Hyderabad Police Warn Against Colleges Falsely Claiming Osmania University Affiliation

On 5 July 2026, the Hyderabad City Police issued a formal warning to students and parents in Hyderabad regarding degree colleges that are falsely claiming affiliation with Osmania University. City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar cautioned families seeking admission into degree courses against falling prey to misleading advertisements published by these unaffiliated institutions.
The issue was brought to the attention of the police by senior officials of Osmania University. Following this, an inquiry was conducted into the claims made by various colleges.
The police investigation revealed that several degree colleges had been actively promoting themselves as being affiliated with Osmania University, despite lacking the required approval or permission from the university. Commissioner VC Sajjanar stated that these institutions were using false claims and misleading advertisements to attract admissions, which ultimately put the academic future of the students at risk.
In response to these findings, the Hyderabad City Police have initiated legal action against the institutions found to be violating regulations and conducting admissions through misleading publicity.
The police have strongly advised students and parents to verify a college’s official affiliation status before taking admission, warning them not to rely on advertisements alone.
Aspiring students are urged to seek admissions only through the colleges listed on the government’s official Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) portal, which includes only institutions with valid recognition.
Commissioner Sajjanar warned of strict action against college managements that mislead students. The police have also appealed to the public to report any such unaffiliated colleges by calling Dial 100 or by informing the nearest police station.
