Hyderabad Police Secure 2,469 Convictions in Six Months Using New Monitoring Cell

Over the past six months, the Hyderabad Police secured 2,469 criminal convictions, including a death penalty in a child murder case registered at the Sanathnagar Police Station. Officials attributed the high conviction rate to the work of the newly-established Investigation Monitoring Cell (IMC).

The convictions achieved over the last half-year included 18 cases resulting in rigorous imprisonment of more than 20 years and 12 life imprisonment sentences, alongside the death penalty.

According to police officials, the IMC is a specialized unit consisting of experienced police officers and legal experts. The cell monitors investigations from their initial stages, guiding field officers on evidence collection, witness identification, digital and forensic examinations, suspect apprehension, and the timely filing of charge sheets.

The IMC also works closely with public prosecutors to minimize procedural lapses during trial. In the Sanathnagar child murder case, the cell closely monitored the investigation to ensure that evidence was collected scientifically and legal procedures were followed. The unit prioritizes cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and offences against women and children.

To further reduce procedural delays, the police highlighted its Court Monitoring System. Under this system, a liaison officer is assigned to each designated court to coordinate the production of evidence, ensure the presence of prosecution witnesses, and monitor cases until their conclusion.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the effectiveness of policing should be measured by the delivery of justice to victims rather than the registration of cases alone.

"The true efficacy of a policing system is realised only when complete justice is delivered to the victims. The Investigation Monitoring Cell serves as a powerful backbone for our investigating officers on the ground," Sajjanar said.

He added that the Hyderabad City Police would continue to strengthen investigations by combining conventional policing with scientific and forensic techniques while leveraging technology to improve conviction rates and the overall criminal justice process.
