Hyderabad Police Mandate Breathalyser Tests for Goshamahal School Transport Drivers

On Monday, July 6, 2026, the Hyderabad Traffic Police directed school managements in the Goshamahal area to introduce mandatory breathalyser tests for school transport drivers before they begin their daily duties. The directive was issued during a meeting aimed at strengthening safety standards in school transportation following recent cases of school transport drivers being booked for driving under the influence of alcohol in Hyderabad.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-II) Kajal Singh chaired the meeting, which brought together officers from the Goshamahal Traffic Police Station and representatives from several local schools. The participating institutions included The Slate School, All Saints High School, Olive Mount School, St. Paul’s School, and Goutham Model School.
During the session, police officials instructed the school managements to ensure that all drivers operating school transport vehicles undergo compulsory pre-duty breathalyser tests. This measure is intended to prevent any instances of driving under the influence and to secure the safety of students during their daily commutes.
In addition to the breathalyser mandate, the Hyderabad Traffic Police directed the schools to strictly enforce several other key road safety norms. School authorities were instructed to prevent overcrowding in all school transport vehicles and to actively discourage rash and negligent driving.
The police also emphasized the importance of ensuring that drivers do not consume alcohol while on duty. Furthermore, school managements were asked to maintain proper supervision while handing over children at designated drop-off points.
To create a safer commuting environment, the police requested that school managements sensitise both parents and private transport operators regarding safe commuting practices. According to the Hyderabad Traffic Police, the participating schools responded positively to the directives and have already initiated steps to implement the recommended safety measures to improve the safety of students travelling by school transport.
