Hyderabad Police Deport Ugandan Woman for Visa Overstay and Drug Peddling Links

The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has apprehended and deported a 36-year-old Ugandan national, Nabanjja Sharon, after she was found staying illegally in India and allegedly associating with drug peddlers within the limits of the Tolichowki police station. She was escorted by police and deported to Uganda from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai on Wednesday.

According to police, Sharon was spotted wandering suspiciously in Tolichowki and was detained by an H-NEW team. During questioning, she failed to produce valid documentation or a satisfactory explanation for her stay in Hyderabad. Police stated that she admitted to overstaying in the country following the expiration of her tourist visa.

Police records show that Sharon originally arrived in India on an e-Tourist visa on March 6, 2019, landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. She subsequently moved to Bengaluru in search of employment, taking up petty jobs. Her tourist visa expired on May 4, 2019, though her passport remains valid until November 23, 2027.

Investigators said Sharon came into contact with drug associates and became involved with peddlers and other illegal activities in both Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Following biometric verification, H-NEW initiated deportation proceedings in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad.

After obtaining an exit permit from the FRRO, Sharon was blacklisted from re-entering India in the future. An H-NEW team led by Inspector M Madhu Babu escorted her to Mumbai for deportation. Police said the action was taken to prevent activities deemed detrimental to national security. The operation was executed by Inspectors P Sridhar and M Madhu Babu along with H-NEW personnel.

Following the deportation, Hyderabad police urged citizens to remain vigilant against drug abuse and appealed to parents to monitor their children's activities. The H-NEW encouraged members of the public to share drug-related information with the enforcement team to help make Hyderabad a drug-free city.
