Hyderabad Police Arrest Man for Posing as Senior Officer in Rs 1.2 Crore Scam

HYDERABAD — The Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) officials have arrested a 40-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly cheating a businessman out of Rs 1.2 crore while posing as a senior police officer.

The suspect has been identified as K R Venkat Raju, also known as DSP Raju, a resident of Rayachoti in the Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh. According to police officials, the accused duped the victim by promising substantial returns on investments in companies that were later found to be completely fake.

Investigators stated that Raju and his associates gained the trust of their targets by offering property documents and postdated cheques as security. However, when victims later approached him seeking repayments on their investments, the accused allegedly issued threats to them.

Raju had been absconding since 2021 before being apprehended by Hyderabad police. In addition to the current Rs 1.2 crore fraud case, officials noted that he is also named as an accused in three other cheating and forgery cases registered across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
