Hyderabad Man Lies on Gowliguda Road to Protest Potholes After Rains

A man staged a unique protest against poor road conditions by lying down on the busy road near the Gowliguda bus stand in Hyderabad, drawing attention to worsening potholes across the city.

The protester, identified as Feroz, said he was agitated over the deteriorating condition of the stretch and wanted to highlight the safety risks faced by both motorists and pedestrians. A video of him lying on the road as a mark of protest circulated widely on social media.

Two police officers arrived at the scene and attempted to persuade Feroz to move aside so that traffic on the busy corridor would not be disrupted. The officers assured him that the damaged road would be repaired by the following morning. However, Feroz argued that the road surface had been worsening for several days, causing severe inconvenience to regular commuters.

Several thoroughfares across the southern parts of Hyderabad have been severely damaged by recent rains. Commuters have faced significant trouble on the road near the Puranapul cremation ground, which local residents described as riddled with potholes that make navigating hazardous, especially for two-wheeler riders.

Damaged roads have also led to accidents elsewhere in the city. On the Jalpally road, a truck transporting a road roller overturned after one of its tyres hit a large pothole. Residents in Sriramnagar Colony noted that such craters have created constant fears of accidents during night travel.

Similar road deterioration has been reported from central areas, including Khaja Mansion Junction at Masab Tank. Residents across multiple neighbourhoods alleged that patchwork repairs carried out by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation tend to fail after light rainfall, prompting widespread demands for long-term, permanent repairs instead of temporary fixes.
