Hyderabad loses Rs 1 crore daily to cyber fraud, says Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar

Hyderabad loses nearly Rs 1 crore every day to cyber fraud, City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar revealed on Friday, 10 July 2026. Speaking in Hyderabad at a national round table organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), Sajjanar highlighted the alarming scale of digital crimes and called for a united response to address the issue.
The Police Commissioner urged law enforcement agencies, banks, telecom operators, and citizens to work together in a coordinated crackdown. Specifically, he pointed out that cybercriminals heavily rely on mule bank accounts and ghost SIM cards to execute their schemes, making it essential for all stakeholders to collaborate to eliminate these tools.
During the event, titled the National Round Table on Digital Trust and Citizen Protection, Sajjanar described cybercrime as one of the most organised forms of crime in the world. He emphasised that the immediate reporting of fraudulent activities is critical to successfully recovering lost money.
Sajjanar urged victims of digital fraud to contact the 1930 National Cyber Crime Helpline immediately after detecting any suspicious activity. He referred to this initial period as the "golden hour," which is vital for law enforcement and financial institutions to freeze stolen funds before they are transferred away by fraudsters.
In addition to rapid reporting, the Police Commissioner stressed that public awareness remains the most effective tool against cyber fraud. He encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to online scams.
The round table, themed “Protecting Citizens from Fear-Driven and Greed-Driven Digital Frauds,” served as a platform for various stakeholders to discuss measures for strengthening digital trust and citizen protection. The event brought together senior police officials, banking and telecom experts, cyber-security professionals, legal experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss solutions.
