Hyderabad Hospitals in Nallakunta, Secunderabad See Surge in Viral Fevers

Persistent wet weather and high humidity across Hyderabad have triggered a sharp seasonal surge in viral fevers, influenza-like illnesses, and suspected vector-borne infections, leading to an influx of patients at major healthcare centres, including Fever Hospital in Nallakunta and Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad.
Outpatient departments across state-run facilities, Basthi Dawakhanas, and private clinics have witnessed an increase in walk-ins with typical viral fever symptoms. Senior doctors noted that a large majority of patients are reporting overlapping symptoms that mirror warning signs for influenza, the common cold, dengue, and chikungunya.
Patients visiting local health facilities are commonly presenting with sudden high-grade fever, severe body aches, joint pain, extreme fatigue, headaches, scratchy throats, and persistent coughs.
Dr Musa Khan, Superintendent of Fever Hospital, highlighted that rainy conditions create an environment conducive to water-borne and vector-borne ailments. He noted that while healthcare centres are recording a rise in viral fever cases, residents can protect themselves by taking straightforward precautions, particularly families living in economically weaker section areas where mosquito exposure is higher.
Doctors clarified that despite heightened public anxiety regarding dengue during monsoon spells, diagnostic tests for a substantial number of patients have returned negative for both dengue and malaria. Medical experts confirmed that aggressive circulating viral and respiratory strains are the primary cause of the current illnesses.
Public health authorities have urged residents across Hyderabad to stay vigilant against seasonal illnesses by eliminating stagnant water breeding sites, consuming safe drinking water, and avoiding self-medication.
