Hyderabad GST Commissionerate hosts student outreach event in Somajiguda

The Hyderabad GST Commissionerate, under the Hyderabad GST Zone, organized a student outreach programme at the Department of Commerce, Villa Marie Degree College for Women in Somajiguda, Hyderabad. The event was held in connection with the upcoming nationwide GST Day celebrations scheduled for July 1.

The primary objective of the outreach programme was to create awareness among young students about the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which stands as one of India’s most significant tax reforms. Officials focused on explaining the tax's direct impact on the nation’s economy and its role in shaping the country's overall taxation framework.

As part of the promotional activities, the college hosted essay writing and elocution competitions on various themes related to GST and taxation. The competitions were designed to provide students with a practical opportunity to enhance their analytical thinking, communication skills, and general understanding of India’s taxation system.

The event was graced by chief guest N J Kumaresh, Principal Commissioner of Central Tax, Hyderabad CGST Commissionerate, and guest of honour L Ramesh, Assistant Commissioner of Central Tax, Ameerpet CGST Division. L Ramesh was accompanied by his team of officials from the Ameerpet division.

Several key representatives from the college played a pivotal role in organizing and executing the successful event. These included Chinnamma, Secretary of the Villa Marie Education Society, Revati Devi Mathur, Principal of the college, and Dr. K Naveen Kumar, the IQAC Coordinator.

During the valedictory session, N J Kumaresh felicitated the student winners of both the essay writing and elocution contests.

The attending dignitaries shared valuable insights with the students regarding the significance of GST, the importance of tax compliance, and the broader context of economic development. They also emphasized the crucial role that youth play in nation-building. The programme concluded with an interactive session, which enabled the students to engage directly with the tax officials, clarify their queries regarding taxation, and learn about career opportunities in the field.
