Hyderabad GST Commissionerate Conducts Student Outreach Programme in Somajiguda

The Hyderabad GST Commissionerate, under the Hyderabad GST Zone, organized an educational outreach programme at the Department of Commerce, Villa Marie Degree College for Women in Somajiguda, Hyderabad. The event, reported on June 24, 2026, was held in connection with the upcoming GST Day celebrations scheduled for July 1.
The primary objective of the outreach initiative was to build awareness among college students regarding the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Officials designed the session to educate the youth on one of India's most significant tax reforms, highlighting its direct impact on the national economy and the broader taxation framework.
The event featured N J Kumaresh, the Principal Commissioner of Central Tax for the Hyderabad CGST Commissionerate, who attended as the chief guest. L Ramesh, the Assistant Commissioner of Central Tax from the Ameerpet CGST Division, was also present as the guest of honour, alongside a team of officials from his division.
Key administrators from the college played a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of the programme. These included Chinnamma, the Secretary of the Villa Marie Education Society, Revati Devi Mathur, the Principal of the college, and Dr. K Naveen Kumar, the IQAC Coordinator.
To engage the students actively, the organizers conducted essay writing and elocution competitions centered on themes of GST and taxation. According to officials, these competitions were designed to help students enhance their analytical thinking, improve their communication skills, and deepen their understanding of how India's taxation system functions.
During the valedictory session of the programme, Principal Commissioner N J Kumaresh felicitated the winners of the essay and elocution contests.
The visiting dignitaries also shared insights on the importance of tax compliance, economic development, and how the youth can contribute to nation-building. The programme concluded with an interactive session, allowing the students to speak directly with the tax officials to clarify their questions about taxation and explore potential career opportunities in the sector.
