Hyderabad Food Safety Drive Uncovers Major Violations, 15 Tonnes Seized

Food safety authorities seized 15 tonnes of adulterated and unhygienic food products valued at around ₹30 lakh during an extensive enforcement drive across Hyderabad, resulting in the immediate suspension of operations at a sweet manufacturing unit in Bachupally.

The coordinated inspections were conducted on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE). A total of 15 specialised enforcement teams, comprising Food Safety Officers alongside police personnel, carried out the operation across 32 sweet and savoury manufacturing and retail establishments in the city.

During the drive, officials detected widespread food safety breaches across several units. The violations included severe pest and rodent infestations, the presence of fungal-infested vegetables, and improper storage of ingredients and finished goods.

In addition to physical hygiene and sanitary failures, the inspection teams discovered multiple products that failed to adhere to statutory packaging and labelling requirements. Officials also flagged misleading claims and advertisements on various food products, raising serious concerns regarding consumer safety and compliance with established food regulations.

Following the critical violations detected during the inspections, the authorities took direct enforcement action against M/s Burfi Ghar in Bachupally, Hyderabad. The licence of the sweet establishment was suspended, and its operational activities were halted immediately.

The enforcement operation culminated in the seizure of 15 tonnes of adulterated and unhygienic food products, with the total haul valued at approximately ₹30 lakh. Specialised teams also collected 35 food samples from the inspected units to undergo laboratory testing on suspicion of adulteration.

Regulatory notices were served to several other non-compliant businesses across Hyderabad. The enforcement teams issued 12 improvement notices directing establishments to rectify deficiencies, alongside four show-cause notices to units found violating food safety norms.
