Hyderabad flower prices surge as supply shortage hits Panjagutta florists

A sharp rise in flower prices over the past few weeks leading up to July 5, 2026, has hit florists in Panjagutta and across Hyderabad, driving up the cost of bouquets and floral arrangements. The price hike is the result of a wholesale supply shortage from Bengaluru, where flower production has declined.
Local florists, event planners, and hamper makers are facing significantly higher input costs, prompting retail price revisions and a shift toward using artificial flowers for decorations.
According to local florists, wholesale prices of flowers have increased by nearly 15 to 20 percent overall, depending on the variety. This has directly impacted retail customers who are now paying more for common floral purchases.
In Panjagutta, florist Anil explained that the supply chain disruption has had a widespread effect. He noted that the market shortage and decreased production in Bengaluru have led to rising rates across several local markets.
The price hike has heavily affected roses, which are among the highest-selling flowers throughout the year. The retail price of a single rose, which previously cost around Rs 30, has risen to Rs 40-45.
Premium flowers have experienced even steeper price hikes. At the local florist shop Fiora, the owner reported that shortages in production have driven up the prices of lilies, carnations, and other varieties. For instance, chrysanthemums that previously cost Rs 280-300 per bundle are now selling for Rs 450-480. Similarly, a single lily stem has risen from Rs 100 to nearly Rs 160.
The rising costs have also forced event planners and hamper makers to adjust their business operations. Many have revised their pricing packages or started incorporating fewer fresh flowers into their designs.
Prabhu, an event manager in the city, stated that while real flower decor remains popular, the price hike has forced many customers to opt for a mix of fresh and artificial flowers to remain within their budgets.
