Hyderabad dengue cases drop to 266 in first seven months of 2026

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) announced on Tuesday that dengue cases in Hyderabad have dropped significantly, with only 266 cases recorded between January and July 13, 2026. This mark represents a sharp decline from the 570 cases reported during the same period in 2025 and the 821 cases recorded in 2024.
According to the municipal corporation, out of the 266 cases recorded in the first seven months of 2026, a total of 127 were laboratory-confirmed dengue cases. The GHMC attributed the reduction in dengue transmission to its strengthened surveillance, active vector control measures, and coordinated efforts with various health agencies.
The municipal body released these figures in a press release on Tuesday, responding to a previously published news report that highlighted the challenges faced in the prevention, management, and control of dengue in Hyderabad. In the release, the GHMC claimed that its surveillance system and vector control measures are helping to effectively monitor and control dengue transmission.
To achieve these results, the GHMC stated that it is actively coordinating with other agencies and teams. This collaborative effort includes working alongside District Malaria Officers under the District Medical and Health Officers, as well as the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme teams. Together, these teams are conducting continuous surveillance for dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
The data provided by the corporation shows a steady downward trend in dengue transmission over the last few years. During the full calendar year of 2025, a total of 1,983 dengue cases were reported in Hyderabad. This was also a decrease from the full calendar year of 2024, when the GHMC recorded a total of 2,806 dengue cases.
The GHMC maintained that the lower number of cases reported during 2026 compared to the corresponding periods in 2024 and 2025 demonstrates the success of the implemented surveillance and control measures.
