Hyderabad Cafes and Pubs See Surge in Weekday Trivia Nights

A new trend is transforming Hyderabad's nightlife as residents increasingly swap dance floors for informal trivia nights at local cafes and pubs. Reported on June 24, 2026, these weekday events, particularly on Tuesday evenings, are revitalizing the city's long-standing quizzing culture by offering a more accessible and social way for people to unwind after work.
The events are drawing diverse crowds, including young professionals aged 25 to 40, families, and seasoned quiz enthusiasts. Lokesh Kaza, a lawyer and the founder of Quizitive, which hosts trivia nights across Hyderabad, noted that the goal is to make quizzing less intimidating than traditional, formal competitions.
Unlike conventional quizzes that require specialized knowledge, these trivia nights focus on accessible topics such as films, music, sports, memes, pop culture, and general knowledge. This format allows participants to join in without prior preparation.
"People want something on weekdays after a work day," Kaza said, adding that the events are attracting a wider audience than traditional formats. While pub events usually draw an older crowd, Kaza noted that children as young as six have attended the cafe events alongside their parents.
A typical trivia night draws between 30 and 50 participants, who form teams of four to six members. While the events are designed as light-hearted entertainment, Kaza mentioned that the competition often intensifies in later rounds, sometimes requiring tie-breakers to decide the winners.
These trivia nights are held once or twice a month at individual venues. Entry fees range from Rs. 200 to Rs. 500, which often includes refreshments. Winners of the competitions receive vouchers or discounts from the hosting venues.
With steady participation and new organizers entering the market, Kaza believes the trivia night scene is still in its early growth phase but is actively picking up interest across Hyderabad.
