HRDA Demands Stipends and Infrastructure at Patnam Mahender Reddy Medical Institute

On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) Telangana condemned the alleged non-payment of stipends and inadequate basic infrastructure for MD/MS postgraduate students at the Dr Patnam Mahender Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad. The doctors' body highlighted that postgraduate resident doctors at the institution have been forced to protest over these unresolved grievances.
In a statement, the HRDA emphasized that postgraduate resident doctors are an integral part of patient care while simultaneously undergoing specialist training. The association declared that the denial or delay of their legitimate stipends is unacceptable and, if proven, reflects a serious failure of institutional responsibility.
The doctors' association also expressed deep concern over allegations that students are being discouraged from raising their genuine grievances. According to the HRDA, students fear victimization for speaking out. The association stated that such actions, if established, run contrary to the principles of transparency, accountability, and academic freedom expected from every medical institution.
To resolve the ongoing crisis, the HRDA urged the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), the National Medical Commission (NMC), and the Government of Telangana to immediately inquire into these allegations.
The HRDA has put forward several key demands to resolve the situation. First, the association demanded the immediate release of all pending stipend payments to the MD/MS postgraduate students.
Second, the doctors' body called for an urgent inspection of the institution by competent authorities. This inspection should focus on the immediate rectification of deficiencies in hostel facilities, drinking water, sanitation, and other essential infrastructure.
Lastly, the HRDA demanded a formal assurance that no MD/MS postgraduate student is subjected to harassment or victimization for peacefully raising genuine concerns regarding their working and living conditions.
