Homeless Woman Raped in Makhtal, Two Detained by Narayanpet Police

A homeless woman was allegedly raped and left bleeding by unidentified assailants near a shelter adjacent to the junior college ground in Makhtal mandal of Narayanpet district, Makhtal Town police said on Thursday.

The attack occurred between 2 am and 3 am in a remote area where the woman and her 12-year-old son were asleep. Police said the assailants, who were reportedly high on ganja, attacked them. The woman's 12-year-old son attempted to confront the gang during the assault.

At about 5 am, local residents noticed the woman pleading for help and alerted the police. Officers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured victim to a government hospital. A woman constable was deputed to accompany her, and a women's team was sent to record her statement.

Medical personnel confirmed the sexual assault after conducting an examination. The victim's physical condition was reported to be stable by Thursday evening, though doctors were still evaluating the reason for her bleeding injuries.

Police said the woman and her son had been living separately from their family due to marital disputes, and she earned a living by doing odd jobs.

Two persons have been detained on suspicion in connection with the case. In response to the incident, police have intensified night patrolling in the area, instructed authorities to install high-mast lights, and proposed the installation of CCTV cameras at identified isolated spots to prevent future crimes.
