HMRL Announces Upgrade Plan for 10 Metro Stations Including Begumpet

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has announced plans to overhaul 10 high-traffic stations across the city, including Begumpet, to tackle peak-hour passenger rush, parking inefficiencies, and street-level maintenance issues. HMRL Additional Managing Director B Ajith Reddy outlined the initiative on Monday, July 27, 2026, following a comprehensive field inspection conducted between Begumpet Metro Station and Raidurg Metro Station.

During the inspection, Ajith Reddy traveled directly on the metro system to closely evaluate platform maintenance and management, concourse amenities, and ground-level infrastructure. The upcoming upgrade of the 10 selected high-density stations will operate as a pilot project to refine operational fixes before HMRL rolls out similar improvements across the wider metro network.

While assessing ground-level infrastructure, the senior official expressed dissatisfaction with the current upkeep of the central medians located between metro pillars. He issued a firm warning to the contractors and agencies tasked with sanitation, instructing officials to enforce strict quality standards and take immediate corrective measures to restore cleanliness around all station premises.

To improve passenger movement during peak office hours, Ajith Reddy instructed officials to prioritize the reorganization of transit arrangements at major IT hubs. Specific focus was placed on improving flow around the Raidurg skywalk and the high-density Mindspace junction to ensure smoother movement for commuters.

In addition, officials were directed to formulate detailed plans for restructuring street-level parking lots at Begumpet, Ameerpet, and Raidurg metro stations to maximize space efficiency. Ajith Reddy also urged officials to conduct a thorough review of retail spaces situated beneath stations, ensuring that safety standards and commuter convenience are maintained.

According to a press release issued by HMRL on Monday, senior leadership and officials will continue conducting similar field inspections in the coming weeks. These ongoing visits are intended to monitor agency compliance and track real-time progress on public cleanliness, parking restructuring, and overall passenger amenities.
