HMDA Speeds Up Work on Rs 5750 Crore Twin Elevated Corridors in Secunderabad

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has accelerated construction on the Rs 5,750-crore twin elevated corridor projects connecting Paradise Junction in Secunderabad with Dairy Farm Road and the Shamirpet Outer Ring Road. Aimed at easing traffic congestion in the northern parts of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the projects are being executed on an 18-month completion deadline to improve connectivity along National Highway-44 and State Highway-1.

On Elevated Corridor-I (EC-I), which connects Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road along NH-44, work is progressing across multiple fronts. In Stretch-I, 18 foundations, 18 piers, and six pier caps have been completed. In Stretch-II, seven foundations and three piers are finished. Near Chainage 3+500, two foundations for an up-ramp have been completed, while the remaining works await the resolution of land acquisition issues. Additionally, 33 girders have already been cast.

The EC-I corridor begins near Balamrai, close to Paradise Junction, where piers and pier caps are currently under construction. Seven piers are being built up to Balamrai Circle, and a major interchange with two ramps is taking shape at Bowenpally Circle. The elevated corridor will continue from Bowenpally to Suchitra Junction before terminating near Dairy Farm Road.

Of the 3.20 km of defence land required for EC-I, about 2.20 km has been handed over to HMDA, while the remaining one km awaits revised working permission from the Ministry of Defence. Currently, 30% of this project stretch is available for construction. Land acquisition awards for the 1.60 km of required private land are yet to be passed. HMDA has completed 2.10 km of the proposed 2.79-km defence compound wall, and work on 29 of the 36 defence-affected structures is in progress.

On Elevated Corridor-II (EC-II), which runs from Paradise Junction to the Shamirpet Outer Ring Road Junction, about 7.50 km of the required 9.813 km of defence land has been handed over. Around 40% of the defence land stretch and nearly half of the overall project corridor are currently available for construction.

For private land on EC-II, about 1.80 km of the required 8.327 km has been handed over. Construction of 4.26 km of the proposed 11.74-km defence compound wall has been completed. One defence sump at the Indian Air Force station in Begumpet is under construction, while land for another at Trishul Lines is yet to be handed over. An underground tunnel is also proposed near the Hakimpet Air Force Station.

HMDA officials stated that utility shifting, boundary wall construction, and tree translocation are currently progressing. A batching plant at Base Camp-I has been commissioned and staff mobilisation is complete, while Base Camp-II is being established at Telangana Sports Land.
