Hindi Film Cocktail 2 Starring Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna Receives Mixed Reviews

The Hindi romantic comedy Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, opened in theatres on June 19, 2026, drawing mixed reactions from critics who labeled the sequel a "half-baked rom-com." Directed by Homi Adajania, the film attempted to recreate the success of its predecessor but struggled to deliver a compelling emotional narrative despite its high-profile cast.

The film's plot follows Kunal, played by Shahid Kapoor, who is in a live-in relationship with Diya, portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna. Their lives become complicated when Ally, played by Kriti Sanon, enters the picture, sparking a modern love triangle that tests their relationships.

While the film was highly anticipated as a contemporary relationship drama, early reviews highlighted several narrative shortcomings. Critics noted that the movie lacks a strong emotional conflict to keep the audience invested. A significant portion of the first half focuses heavily on party scenes, pub sequences, and lifestyle montages, which critics felt stretched the story unnecessarily.

Performance-wise, Kriti Sanon received praise for delivering a commendable performance, showing energy in the first half and conviction during emotional scenes in the second half. Shahid Kapoor was also noted for his effortless charm and stylish screen presence.

However, Rashmika Mandanna's character suffered from weak writing and lacked a well-defined arc, according to reviews, which also pointed out that some of her Hindi dialogues did not enhance her performance.

On the technical side, the film features visually appealing cinematography by Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran, capturing Sicily as a backdrop. The production values are lavish, and the music, composed by Pritam, was noted as a positive element. Despite these strengths, the direction by Homi Adajania was criticized for relying too heavily on style over emotional depth, leading to a sluggish second half and a predictable climax.

Cocktail 2 is produced by Dinesh Vijan, Luv Ranjan, Pramita R Vijan, and Ankur Garg, with editing handled by Akshara Prabhakar.
