High Court Orders Telangana to Continue Bullet Resistant Vehicle for RS Praveen Kumar

On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the Telangana High Court in Hyderabad directed the State government to continue providing a Bullet-Resistant Vehicle to retired IPS officer and BRS leader Dr. R. S. Praveen Kumar. Justice T. Madhavi Devi issued the order and directed the state's Director General of Police to consider his representation for the restoration of the security vehicle.
The court issued these directions during the hearing of a writ petition filed by Dr. R. S. Praveen Kumar. In his petition, the retired IPS officer challenged the unilateral decision of the state authorities to withdraw the Bullet-Resistant Vehicle that had been allotted to him for his safety.
According to the petitioner, the authorities had directed him to return the vehicle without conducting any fresh threat assessment. He also argued that the decision was made without giving him any opportunity to be heard, violating proper procedure.
Dr. Kumar contended that he faces ongoing security threats from CPI (Maoist) extremists. Despite these active and documented threats, the authorities ordered the withdrawal of the vehicle without assigning any specific reasons for their actions.
Taking note of the submissions presented in the petition, Justice Madhavi Devi ordered that the Bullet-Resistant Vehicle presently provided to Dr. Kumar shall continue to remain with him.
The High Court also directed the Director General of Police to officially consider Dr. Kumar’s representation seeking the restoration of the vehicle. The court emphasized that the DGP must evaluate this representation in accordance with the law.
