High Court Extends Relief to Private Colleges Over Fee Reimbursement Policy

The Telangana High Court in Hyderabad on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, adjourned the hearing on a batch of petitions challenging the state's fee reimbursement policy. Justice Juvvadi Sridevi extended the interim relief previously granted to private engineering and pharmacy colleges, directing that the temporary protection will continue until the next hearing date on July 6, 2026.
The petitions were filed by private engineering and pharmacy colleges in the state. These institutions are challenging specific provisions of G.O.Ms. No. 9, a government order concerning the Telangana State Government's fee reimbursement policy.
A key point of contention in the petitions is the restriction preventing private colleges from collecting fees from students while waiting for the state government to release reimbursement funds. The colleges argue that these restrictions, combined with delayed payments from the state, have caused significant financial strain.
In an earlier hearing, the court had temporarily suspended the operation of four clauses of G.O.Ms. No. 9. This decision was made after the court expressed concern over the severe financial difficulties educational institutions face due to mounting reimbursement arrears and the rules preventing them from collecting fees.
With the extension of the interim order by Justice Juvvadi Sridevi on Tuesday, the private colleges can continue to operate under this temporary suspension. This provides them relief from the fee collection restrictions pending the state government's reimbursement. The High Court has scheduled the next hearing on the matter for July 6, 2026.
