Hi-tech City Railway Station Redevelopment Completed at a Cost of Rs 26 Crore

The South Central Railways has completed the major redevelopment of the Hi-tech City Railway Station in Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 26 crore. Executed under the Indian Railways' Amrit Station Scheme, the upgraded station is now fully ready for its official inauguration, bringing enhanced infrastructure to the western part of the city.
The Hi-tech City Railway Station is situated on the busy Lingampalli–Secunderabad suburban route. It serves as the primary railhead for commuters traveling to and from Hyderabad's prominent IT industry hub, often referred to as the cybercity. The station primarily caters to passengers in the western suburbs, an area that has been undergoing rapid urban development.
At present, the station exclusively handles suburban train services. Approximately 62 suburban trains ply through this station daily, linking commuters to key destinations across the city, including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Umdanagar, Falaknuma, Medchal, and Ghatkesar. The station records an average daily footfall of around 3,000 passengers, many of whom are IT professionals and daily commuters.
To accommodate this commuter base, the redevelopment project focused heavily on improving accessibility and pedestrian movement. A key feature of the upgrade is the construction of a new 12-meter-wide foot overbridge, which has been built to support the station's pre-existing 2-meter-wide foot overbridge.
To further assist passengers navigating the platforms, authorities have installed two new escalators and two additional passenger lifts. These new lifts join the two existing lifts already operational at the station.
The station's overall aesthetic and passenger comfort have also been upgraded. The project included the construction of a new entrance portico and extensive improvements to the circulating area outside. On the platforms, commuters will find newly developed toilet blocks, a comfortable waiting hall, fresh landscaping, and modern facade lighting. Clear, passenger-friendly signage has also been installed throughout the station premises to guide travelers.
The transformation is part of a larger initiative by the Indian Railways to upgrade railway stations on a massive scale under the Amrit Station Scheme, aiming to provide world-class facilities to rail passengers.
