Heavy Rain Lashes Banjara Hills and Khairatabad, Kavadiguda Records 20.5 mm

Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Hyderabad on Wednesday afternoon, catching commuters unprepared following days of bright and dry weather across the city. The sudden change in weather brought intense downpours to key localities including Banjara Hills, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, and Madhapur, leading to waterlogging and disrupted traffic movement in several areas.

The skies across Hyderabad turned dark shortly after 3 p.m., followed immediately by intense rainfall. The sudden downpour caught many commuters by surprise as they traveled through the city. To escape the heavy rain, several people were seen taking shelter beneath overhead Metro stations and other covered spaces along major roadways.

The downpour created traffic congestion and localized waterlogging in multiple stretches. Traffic was reported moving slowly near Taj Krishna towards KCP Junction, while similar slow traffic movement and waterlogged stretches were observed along the Panjagutta flyover. In addition to these corridors, heavy rainfall was reported from Ameerpet, Khairatabad, Madhura Nagar, Nagole, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, and Madhapur, alongside several other surrounding neighborhoods.

Data compiled by the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) up to 7 p.m. on Wednesday detailed the extent of the rainfall across different locations in the city. According to the TGDPS recordings, Kavadiguda recorded the highest rainfall at 20.5 mm. It was followed by Khairatabad, which recorded 19 mm of rainfall, and Vidya nagar, which registered 18.8 mm.

The TGDPS data also showed that Amberpet received 18.5 mm of rainfall, while Adikmet logged 16.3 mm. Ramanthapur recorded 15.5 mm, Osmania University recorded 15 mm, and Bansilalpet registered 14.8 mm. Elsewhere in the city, Tarnaka recorded 13.8 mm, Banjara Hills recorded 13.5 mm, and Jubilee Hills recorded 12.8 mm of rain by 7 p.m.
