Health Officials Seal Facilities at Sangareddy Doctor's Private Hospital

A health department inspection team has uncovered widespread violations, including expired drugs and unauthorized clinical practices, at KBR Life Care Hospital located in Pothireddypally in Sangareddy district. The private hospital belongs to Dr. K. Ramesh, a deputy civil surgeon at Jogipet Area Hospital who was recently suspended from service.

Following the inspection, health authorities sealed the hospital's laboratory, operation theatres, and ultrasound room. They also seized Outpatient and Inpatient records, which are now in the custody of the District Medical and Health Officer.

According to inspection findings, nearly 75 per cent of the laboratory reagents stored at the facility had expired. Officials noted that conducting diagnostic tests with expired reagents poses a significant risk to patient health and compromises accuracy. The inspection team also discovered that the facility failed to follow mandated biomedical waste segregation guidelines.

In the operation theatre and refrigerator, inspection teams found expired drugs and anaesthesia-related medicines alongside pre-filled syringes stored without proper identification labels. Citing immediate patient safety concerns, authorities ordered the immediate closure of the operation theatres and instructed the management to halt all surgical procedures until further notice.

Officials also flagged serious irregularities in the operation of the hospital's ultrasound equipment. A mobile ultrasound machine was discovered inside the operation theatre, prompting authorities to seal the ultrasound room and initiate proceedings under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and Rules.

During the raid, officials collected records suggesting Dr. Ramesh examined patients at his private hospital during his scheduled government duty hours. Case sheets seized from the premises reportedly documented him conducting patient examinations in the morning. Dr. Ramesh had already been suspended recently for allegedly allowing an unauthorized private individual to perform his night-duty responsibilities at the Jogipet Area Hospital.

The health department is also investigating the potential involvement of another government-employed gynaecologist linked to the facility.

Because five in-patients were admitted to the hospital at the time of the inspection, health officials decided against an immediate total shutdown of the facility to prioritize patient safety. The management was instructed not to take in any new admissions or perform surgeries, and was directed by the District Medical and Health Officer to provide necessary care to the five current patients while arranging their safe discharge within 48 hours.
