HC seeks action over alleged police abuse of retired sub-inspector in Yousufguda

The Telangana High Court on Thursday voiced shock and demanded responses from police authorities following allegations that Madhura Nagar police abused, humiliated, and attempted to extort Rs 1 lakh at gunpoint from a 75-year-old retired sub-inspector at his residence in Yousufguda, Hyderabad. Justice T Madhavi Devi issued notices to the Madhura Nagar police, the Hyderabad police commissioner, and the principal secretary of the home department, directing them to explain the alleged misconduct and address why the victim should not be compensated.
The alleged incident occurred on May 18, when police officers reportedly barged into the residence of the victim, Mohammed Osman, and forced him out of his home. Osman, who served the police department for over three decades, alleged that the officers threatened him at gunpoint and demanded Rs 1 lakh, warning him that they would register a false case against him if he did not comply.
In his petition, Osman told the court that he was subjected to severe mental agony, physical torture, and humiliation in front of the public. He urged the court to initiate strict disciplinary action against the police officers concerned.
During the court hearing, Osman’s counsel informed the bench that the officers did not provide any reason for taking the retired sub-inspector away. The counsel also emphasized to the court that there are no active cases registered against Osman.
According to the counsel, the officers were transporting Osman to the police station but abandoned him midway when he collapsed. Passersby subsequently noticed him and shifted him to a nearby private hospital, where he underwent medical treatment that cost Rs 25,000.
Expressing deep shock over the disturbing allegations, the High Court has now sought a detailed response from the state government and senior police officials regarding the alleged misconduct of the Madhura Nagar police.
