Harish Rao Criticises Govt for Limiting TIMS Sanathnagar to Out-Patient Services

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Deputy Floor Leader in the Telangana Assembly T. Harish Rao on Monday, August 17, 2026, criticised the State government for running only out-patient (OP) services at the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad, instead of operationalising full-fledged in-patient treatment.
Speaking on the issue, Mr. Rao stated that it was unfortunate that a healthcare facility developed with an investment of ₹1,000 crore was being limited strictly to out-patient services. He noted that changing the name of the hospital would not alter the historical facts about who envisioned, planned, and constructed the super-speciality hospital.
Mr. Rao accused the current administration of claiming undue credit for the project, comparing it to earlier instances where appointment letters were handed over to candidates selected during the BRS administration. He said the present government was attempting to publicise the opening of TIMS as its own hard work despite the major groundwork having been done previously.
According to the BRS leader, former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had conceived three super-speciality hospitals on three sides of the city—at Sanathnagar, Alwal, and L.B. Nagar—to ensure corporate-level super-speciality medical care was accessible to the poor. The construction of the three institutions, designed with a capacity of 1,000 beds each, was initiated at a combined cost of ₹2,679 crore and had reached near completion by the time the BRS demitted office.
Mr. Rao pointed out that after the Congress government assumed office, it repeatedly shifted dates and missed deadlines for the inauguration of these medical facilities. He added that alongside the three TIMS institutions, the previous BRS government had also sanctioned a multi-super speciality hospital at Warangal and an additional 2,000-bed block at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), but these major healthcare projects are also facing prolonged delays under the present regime.
