Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla Stresses Credibility at Hyderabad Press Club Event

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasised on Friday that accuracy, impartiality, and credibility must remain the core principles of journalism in the digital era. Speaking ahead of the first national conference of the Federation of Press Clubs, organised by the Hyderabad Press Club, he underscored the necessity of verifying facts before disseminating news.
Describing the media as the "eyes and ears of society and the voice of the people," Mr. Shukla commended the initiative to bring press club representatives from across the country together. He expressed hope that the federation would actively work toward promoting journalists' welfare, social security, and professional development.
Addressing modern technological developments, Mr. Shukla noted that Artificial Intelligence and data analytics offer new opportunities, but warned that deepfakes, AI-generated videos, and misinformation pose severe challenges. He cautioned journalists against being swayed by social media trends or sensationalism, remarking that speed should never come at the cost of credibility.
He noted that rapid information spread on social platforms has significantly increased the responsibility placed on media professionals, particularly in providing accurate and trustworthy information to younger generations like Gen-Z. To tackle misinformation, he advocated for improved digital and AI literacy, robust fact-checking mechanisms, and collaborative efforts among media organisations, tech firms, and citizens.
Additionally, the Governor called on media representatives to back public welfare initiatives such as Nasha Mukt Bharat and TB Mukt Bharat by running sustained awareness campaigns.
The event was attended by Telangana Media Academy chairman K. Srinivas Reddy, Special Chief Secretary M. Dana Kishore, Hyderabad Press Club president S. Vijay Kumar Reddy, General Secretary V. Ramesh, The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited Director N. Ram, Federation of Press Clubs president Gautam Lahiri, and other dignitaries.
