Government to Set Up Committee to Streamline Telangana State Waqf Board

The Telangana government is planning to constitute a committee to examine the affairs of the Telangana State Waqf Board, streamline its functioning, and protect its assets and properties. Minister for Public Enterprises and Minority Welfare Mohammed Azharuddin announced the initiative in Adilabad, stating that the committee will recommend measures to ensure Waqf properties are effectively utilized for the welfare and development of Muslim minorities.
Azharuddin stated that there was no point in being the minister for minority welfare if he could not ensure that the Waqf Board, which comes under his ministry, functions effectively. The planned committee will look into the board's affairs and recommend ways to safeguard its properties.
Addressing security and legal issues, the minister referred to the killing of advocate Khaza Moizuddin in connection with a Waqf land dispute. He noted that there are several long-pending cases relating to Waqf lands and properties, and asserted that all such cases would be verified.
Beyond property protection, Azharuddin highlighted broader welfare plans for the state's Muslim minorities. The government is currently utilizing data from its Socio-Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste Survey to identify gaps in education, employment, and overall development. According to the minister, these findings will help the government focus on weaker areas and formulate targeted welfare measures.
The minister also emphasized educational initiatives, noting that the government recently inaugurated two junior college buildings. An additional 20 buildings are ready for inauguration, and the state plans to establish 10 degree colleges each for boys and girls to reduce dropouts. Permanent buildings with modern infrastructure are also being constructed for institutions run by the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS).
Additionally, the department is organizing job melas and providing skill training in various sectors for educated unemployed minority youth to improve their employability. Azharuddin noted he is working closely with TMREIS president Md Faheem Qureshi on these educational standards, with support from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
