Golconda student booked for murder after throwing newborn from hostel window

A 19-year-old Intermediate second-year student has been booked for murder after allegedly giving birth to a baby boy in a washroom and throwing the newborn out of a hostel window in Golconda, Hyderabad. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, resulting in the immediate death of the infant.

The matter was discovered by the principal of the government educational institution, who noticed a newborn baby lying motionless on a roof projection adjoining a wall. The principal immediately alerted the Golconda police.

To investigate the situation, the principal reviewed the hostel's CCTV footage. The footage revealed that the 19-year-old student, who resided in the hostel, had gone to the washroom around 4:30 am on Tuesday and subsequently returned to her room.

When questioned by the principal, the student allegedly admitted that she was pregnant and had gone into labour in the early hours of the morning. She reportedly delivered a baby boy in the washroom and then carried the newborn in a bucket back to her hostel room. According to the police, she then threw the infant out of a window located beside the bathroom.

The newborn infant sustained a fatal head injury from the fall and died at the scene. Investigators suspect that the student had conceived after a relationship with a relative. The student’s parents later informed the police that they were entirely unaware of the pregnancy.

Following the discovery, the student was shifted to Niloufer Hospital for a medical examination.

The Golconda police have registered a case against the student under Sections 103(1) for murder and 238 for causing disappearance of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation into the case has been launched to uncover further details.
