Global Universities to Set Up Offshore Campuses in Hyderabad

The Telangana government delegation led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has secured commitments from top international academic institutions to establish campuses and specialized programmes in Hyderabad. The agreements follow the Chief Minister's visit to the United Kingdom and an official delegation tour to the United States between August 19 and August 29.

Under the agreements, Northeastern University from Boston and the University of London will establish their first offshore campuses in India in Hyderabad. In addition, Harvard University expressed its intent to conduct short-term executive education programmes for senior government and corporate officials at the Dr MCR HRD Institute in Hyderabad.

During discussions in the UK, the London School of Economics and the School of Oriental and African Studies agreed to send delegations to Hyderabad to explore setting up offshore schools, improving teaching models, supporting industry interaction, and stationing faculty in the city. The state delegation also held discussions with leadership and senior faculty from Oxford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, London Business School, Cambridge University, and Imperial College London.

Following the foreign visits, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with state officials to assess the outcomes and set next steps. Officials who met with representatives from Northeastern University and Virginia Tech University in the US briefed the Chief Minister on the discussions, indicating that further formal agreements would follow.

Revanth Reddy noted that the partnerships with global universities will support Telangana's long-term economic target of reaching a $3 trillion economy by 2047, with an interim goal of $1 trillion by 2034. He directed officials to actively oversee the entry of international academic institutions through offshore campuses and institutional collaborations.

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, who led talks with the London Business School, stated that developing a global knowledge hub in Hyderabad will spur the expansion of Global Capability Centres and industrial manufacturing in the state by providing advanced training and skilled manpower.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to incorporate a dedicated track focusing on global educational institutions and sports infrastructure at the Invest Telangana Global Summit, scheduled to take place on December 7, 8, and 9.
