GHMC Urges Hyderabad Residents to Report Food Safety Violations on FSSAI App

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has urged citizens in Hyderabad to report food safety violations, such as unhygienic kitchens and poor food handling, by submitting photographs through the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India's (FSSAI) Food Safety Connect mobile application.

According to municipal officials, this public participation initiative is designed to help prevent foodborne illnesses and improve overall hygiene standards at various food establishments across the city. By involving the public directly in monitoring, the GHMC aims to create a safer food environment for all residents of Hyderabad.

Under this initiative, citizens who spot unsafe food, unhygienic kitchens, or poor food handling practices are asked to take a photograph of the violation. These images can then be submitted directly along with a report through the FSSAI's Food Safety Connect app.

The submission of these photographic reports is intended to enable authorities to take timely and appropriate action against the offending food establishments. The civic body hopes that active community involvement will ensure stricter adherence to food safety guidelines by local businesses.

The GHMC emphasized that public vigilance plays a crucial role in maintaining food safety standards. By utilizing the digital platform provided by the FSSAI, residents can act as eyes and ears for the municipal corporation, ensuring that unhygienic practices do not go unnoticed.

Through the collaborative effort between the GHMC, the FSSAI, and the citizens of Hyderabad, the authorities aim to address complaints swiftly. This system of reporting is expected to hold food establishments accountable, thereby reducing the risk of foodborne health issues in the community. The initiative relies heavily on residents taking photos of violations to provide clear evidence for the authorities to act upon.

Officials stated that the primary objective of encouraging citizens to use the Food Safety Connect app is to foster a cleaner and safer dining experience throughout Hyderabad. By reporting violations like unhygienic kitchens and unsafe food handling, citizens can actively assist the GHMC and FSSAI in maintaining high hygiene standards across all local food establishments.
