GHMC to Procure 20,000 Metric Tonnes of Steel for 7 KBR Park Flyovers

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is preparing to procure an estimated 20,000 metric tonnes of steel to construct seven steel flyovers around KBR Park in Jubilee Hills. The initiative, taken up under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure project, aims to ease vehicular congestion around the national park and is scheduled for completion within two years.

According to civic officials, preliminary excavation works have commenced across key junctions, with traffic police introducing one-way movement to facilitate construction. Due to the massive steel volume required, the civic body is evaluating bulk procurement options and holding discussions with steel manufacturers who can handle large-scale advance orders.

The overall plan includes seven flyovers and two underpasses. Among the major structures is a four-lane, first-level flyover spanning 745 metres with 20 foundations, starting from Jubilee Hills Check Post on Road No 45 near the Jubilee Hills Metro station and dropping at Mangat Rai Jewellers. A second-level flyover at the Jubilee Hills Check Post junction will run 770 metres with 15 foundations, providing a two-lane unidirectional passage towards Durgam Cheruvu.

At the KBR Park entrance junction, a three-lane flyover covering 891 metres with 24 foundations will extend to Mugdha Junction on Jubilee Hills Road No 36, near the Sagar Society traffic junction. Another two-lane flyover measuring 540 metres with eight foundations will stretch from the Indo-American Cancer Hospital junction towards Maharaja Agrasen Island junction.

The project also features a 600-metre, two-lane unidirectional flyover with 14 foundations connecting Film Nagar with Maharaja Agrasen Bhavan, alongside a 590-metre flyover with 12 foundations at Maharaja Agrasen Junction. Additionally, a 500-metre, two-lane unidirectional flyover with 12 foundations will be built from Road No 45 near Mayuri Food Court to the Indian Petrol Pump.

Officials confirmed that excavation work is progressing as traffic movement around KBR Park stabilises, with construction moving ahead to meet the project schedule.
