GHMC to Open Rs 620 Crore Saidabad-Santoshnagar Flyover in August

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is gearing up to open the newly constructed 3.3-kilometre-long flyover connecting Nalgonda crossroads near Malakpet to Saidabad and IS Sadan near Santoshnagar in August. The Rs 620 crore infrastructure project is expected to provide significant relief to motorists by easing heavy traffic congestion along this busy route.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan announced the upcoming launch on Tuesday after inspecting the construction site. Accompanied by Chief Engineer S. Ratnakar and senior officials from the civic body's engineering wing, Karnan reviewed the progress of the project to ensure its timely completion.
During the inspection, the Commissioner instructed officials to expedite all pending works. These remaining tasks include laying the BT road on the flyover, constructing service roads, and completing the Akbarbagh up-ramp along with other remaining ramps. Additionally, workers must install crash barriers, complete road markings, set up street lighting, and finish horticulture and landscaping works beneath the flyover.
Karnan stated that the construction of the flyover had been taken up at a total cost of Rs 620 crore. While the project initially progressed at a tardy pace due to land acquisition delays and subsequent legal issues, the work gained significant momentum over the past year after the land acquisition process was successfully completed.
One ramp of the flyover, which begins at Akberbagh, will land at Saidabad for commuters heading toward Karmanghat. Another ramp at IS Sadan will serve motorists proceeding toward Owaisi Hospital and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.
Chief Engineer S. Ratnakar explained that the flyover would resolve the severe traffic woes currently faced by commuters. While traffic chaos currently makes the journey from Akberbagh to IS Sadan take 45 minutes, the new flyover will reduce this travel time to just eight minutes.
