GHMC to Hold Sacred Waste Collection Drive Across 29 Temples on August 29

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will organise ‘Project Udvasana’, a special initiative to collect sacred waste from citizens, across 29 temples in six civic zones including Charminar, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Golconda, and Khairatabad on August 29.

The collection drive is scheduled to take place between 8:30 am and 11 am. On Thursday, the civic body released a comprehensive list of designated temples identified across the six zones to facilitate the handover of religious waste material.

Under this initiative, local residents can deposit old idols of gods and goddesses, religious photographs, calendars, and other sacred items at the designated temple sites within their respective civic zones.

According to a press release, priests at the designated temples will first perform the traditional ‘Udavasana’ ritual over the gathered sacred objects. Following the completion of the ritual, volunteers will step in to remove and collect the items.

The civic body stated that the collected sacred material will subsequently be dispatched for sustainable recycling and responsible processing, ensuring that religious articles are handled respectfully while addressing civic waste management.
