GHMC Repairs 105 Potholes and Clears Waste on Day 2 of Hyderabad Monsoon Drive

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) repaired 105 potholes and cleared over 170 metric tonnes of waste across Hyderabad on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as part of the second day of its special monsoon drive. According to a press release issued by the civic body, the city-wide drive is aimed at addressing road infrastructure issues, waste management, and drainage clearance, and will remain in effect until August 21.

During Wednesday's operations, GHMC field teams focused heavily on road maintenance and clearing accumulated debris across the municipal area. Civic workers filled 105 damaged patches and potholes on city roads. In terms of sanitation, municipal crews successfully removed 126.6 metric tonnes of legacy municipal solid waste along with 46.6 metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste from various locations.

To prevent urban flooding and maintain effective drainage during the rainy season, civic workers executed targeted clearing works on local water channels and drainage points. Teams cleared 65 catch pits and two culverts across Hyderabad. Furthermore, field workers removed a total of 11.9 metric tonnes of floating material and silt directly from the city's nalas to ensure unobstructed water flow.

Commercial waste infrastructure and green space maintenance were also addressed as part of the drive's second day. The civic body installed 107 commercial bins at shops to promote better waste management practices among commercial establishments. Municipal teams pruned 47.5 metric tonnes of tree branches and lifted 10.45 metric tonnes of dry and green waste from 34 parks across Hyderabad. Teams also constructed one rainwater harvesting structure.

Educational programs formed a key part of the day's initiatives. GHMC teams visited 18 schools across Hyderabad and conducted awareness sessions for 700 students regarding 'Bulk Waste Generator' (BWG) standards. During these visits, officials explained the specific compliance rules set out under updated municipal and national solid waste regulations.
