GHMC Prepares for Ganesh Chaturthi and Tank Bund Immersion

HYDERABAD — The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated preparations for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festivities and the idol immersion procession scheduled for September 25, with key operations centered around Tank Bund.

On Thursday, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan held a special coordination meeting with line departments to review arrangements. Following the trifurcation of the erstwhile GHMC, the municipal body will oversee the 10-day festival for the first time across its newly added circles, zones, and recently merged areas. Ganesh Chaturthi is set to begin on September 14.

According to a press release from the civic body, the meeting focused on planning procession routes and necessary logistical support. An action plan will be drafted in coordination with festival committees, the police department, and other government bodies to manage road repairs, barricading, crane placements, power supply, drinking water, sanitation, and emergency medical services.

The civic body announced that all road repair works along designated procession routes must be completed by September 13.

To manage the final immersion proceedings, a control room will be set up at Tank Bund, alongside another control room dedicated to real-time monitoring and rapid response. Civic deployments for the event will include round-the-clock sanitation workers, fogging teams, cranes, rescue boats, trained swimmers, lifesaving equipment, ambulances, and paramedical staff.
