GHMC Orders Closure of Meat and Beef Shops on September 4 for Janmashtami

HYDERABAD — The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has ordered the mandatory closure of all meat and beef shops, as well as slaughterhouses, across Hyderabad on September 4 to mark the festival of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.

GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan issued the directive on Wednesday, instructing that all facilities engaged in the slaughter of sheep, goats, and cattle, along with retail meat and beef establishments located within the GHMC limits, must remain shut for the entire day.

According to the Commissioner, the closure order was issued under Section 533(b) of the GHMC Act, 1955, taking into consideration the religious significance of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.

To ensure strict implementation of the directive across the city, the GHMC chief has requested the Hyderabad police commissioners to extend full cooperation and support municipal authorities in monitoring and enforcing the closure throughout all municipal zones.
