GHMC Intensifies Mosquito Surveillance to Tackle Vector-Borne Diseases

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has intensified entomological surveillance and field inspections across Hyderabad to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sources amid public health concerns during the monsoon.

The decision was taken during a review meeting held at the GHMC head office, where the GHMC Commissioner directed civic officials to step up operational measures to prevent and control vector-borne diseases across the city.

Experts from the Department of Entomology at Osmania University participated in the meeting, offering technical inputs on mosquito control strategies and scientific methods for locating and destroying breeding sites.

During the session, officials reviewed the prevailing public health situation and assessed ongoing measures aimed at curbing the mosquito population. Discussions focused on strengthening ground-level entomological surveillance, tracking potential breeding areas, and ensuring that preventive protocols are effectively implemented by field teams.

The Commissioner instructed all zonal commissioners and municipal health officials to step up field inspections and ensure immediate action at identified breeding spots. Additionally, officials were directed to build public awareness regarding the maintenance of hygienic surroundings and the prevention of water stagnation in residential areas.
