GHMC, Hyderabad Police Plan Single-Day Ganesh Immersion at Hussain Sagar on Sept 25

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad police are preparing to complete Ganesh idol immersions at Hussain Sagar Lake in a single day on September 25.

In previous years, idol immersion activities at Hussain Sagar frequently extended into the following day. The prolonged process resulted in hundreds of vehicles piling up and causing major traffic congestion along Tank Bund and adjacent arterial stretches. To prevent similar bottlenecks this year, civic authorities have initiated major infrastructural upgrades around the lake.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has strengthened and extended two platforms at NTR Marg to support the deployment of additional heavy machinery. Boulders are being placed at these platforms to ensure they can withstand the weight of heavy cranes without sinking.

According to HMDA officials, two to three cranes, each possessing a capacity of 200 tonnes, will be operated simultaneously at the site to facilitate a swift immersion process. Authorities have identified 38 separate locations along Hussain Sagar for the upcoming immersions. The total number of cranes deployed at the water body will be increased from 15 to 20, with capacities ranging from 100 to 200 tonnes.

Except for minor finishing work, the primary structural works on the two platforms near Tank Bund are nearing completion. Officials confirmed that the cranes will be put in place two days ahead of the immersion day.

Alongside the civic preparations, work on Hyderabad's famous Khairatabad Ganesh idol is progressing rapidly. The eco-friendly clay idol, designed around the Panchamukha Sankatahara Maha Ganapati theme, is being built to a height of 69 feet. The installation also includes a 15-foot Somnath Jyotirlinga on the right side and Kalika Mata on the left. Raj Kumar, chairman of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee, stated that nearly 100 artisans from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Maharashtra are engaged in the work, with over 60 percent of the project completed.
