GHMC fines HMWS&SB contractor Rs 5,000 for dumping debris on Chikadpally road

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday cleared accumulated road debris from Chikadpally road and penalized a Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) contractor Rs 5,000 for leaving waste on the roadside. The contractor had abandoned the excavated material after executing water connection works in the area.
The civic action was initiated after officials identified the presence of debris on the busy stretch. To address the issue, the GHMC contacted the HMWS&SB manager and deployed local municipal staff to assess the situation.
A sanitation supervisor and a sanitary field assistant from the corporation inspected the Chikadpally road location. During their inspection, they observed that a significant amount of debris, consisting of excavated road material and road-cutting waste, had been left directly on the roadside.
According to officials, the piled-up waste was causing severe inconvenience to daily commuters and significantly affecting the cleanliness of the road. The contractor responsible for the water connection works had failed to clear the site after completing the project.
To resolve the issue, the GHMC mobilized its sanitation workers to the spot. The team cleared all the accumulated debris and waste material, restoring the site to a clean and safe condition for public use.
Following the cleanup, the corporation officially fixed responsibility for the improper disposal of the excavation waste on the HMWS&SB contractor. A penalty of Rs 5,000 was imposed on the contractor in accordance with the applicable municipal regulations.
In addition to the fine, the GHMC instructed the contracting agency to strictly adhere to established waste disposal guidelines for all future works. The corporation also issued instructions to municipal staff to ensure continuous supervision of the area and to take all necessary measures to prevent similar violations.
