GHMC Collects 753 Kg of Sacred Items in Project Udvasana Drive

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) collected 753 kg of worshipped sacred items across six locations in Hyderabad on Saturday during the third edition of its 'Project Udvasana' drive. The initiative, which is part of the GHMC’s broader sustainability programme, aims to provide an environmentally responsible and respectful system for the disposal and recycling of worshipped sacred items.
Around 150 citizens participated in the Saturday drive. They deposited a significant volume of religious materials, including more than 1,200 pooja frames and deity photographs, 84 idols, and 235 religious albums and calendars. To support the campaign, several civic-minded residents also collected items from their neighbours and nearby households before bringing them to the designated collection centres.
With the completion of this latest drive, the Project Udvasana initiative has recorded a total of 313 citizen drop-offs across its three editions. In total, the programme has successfully prevented more than 1.25 tonnes of sacred materials from being improperly discarded.
The GHMC stated that it has received numerous requests from local citizens, resident welfare associations, and temple managements to organise similar collection drives in other parts of the city.
To address this demand, the civic body now plans to institutionalise the initiative. The GHMC plans to partner with interested temples across Hyderabad to hold regular collection drives on designated days, ensuring a sustainable and respectful disposal system is permanently available to residents.
