GHMC Chief R V Karnan Orders Stepped-Up Vector-Borne Disease Control in Hyderabad

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R V Karnan directed officials on Saturday to assess Hyderabad’s public health situation and intensify measures to prevent and control vector-borne diseases across the city.

The directions were issued during a review meeting held at the GHMC head office, where Karnan evaluated ongoing entomological surveillance, the identification and elimination of mosquito-breeding sources, preventive measures, and field-level execution.

To strengthen the anti-larval and vector control operations, experts from Osmania University’s Department of Entomology will provide technical inputs. The university experts are set to assist the civic body with scientific methods for tracking and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

Karnan instructed medical and health officials to maintain close coordination between GHMC field staff and health authorities. He noted that inter-departmental cooperation, prompt field action, and scientific surveillance remain essential components for safeguarding public health.

The commissioner also called on field teams to intensify inspections, act immediately upon discovering mosquito-breeding grounds, and actively raise awareness among residents regarding cleanliness, hygiene, and the prevention of water stagnation.
