Ganesh Immersion Draws Heavy Crowds and Traffic to Hussain Sagar and Khairatabad

Ganesh idol immersion processions continued late into Sunday night at Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad, drawing massive crowds to the lakefront and triggering heavy vehicular traffic across key central junctions.

The immersion activity, which began on Saturday and ran through the weekend, saw hundreds of idols brought to the waterbody. Devotees carried small household idols carefully on two-wheelers, while magnificent pandal deities arrived at the site on heavily decorated trucks.

The Hyderabad city administration set up elaborate arrangements around the lake, its peripheral surroundings, and baby ponds to handle the heavy volume of immersions. Authorities fortified the lake’s shoreline and deployed expert swimmers and disaster response teams in high-density zones to ensure safety amid the swelling crowds.

Along the water’s edge, lifesavers maintained constant vigil to prevent untoward incidents during the immersion process. Heavy cranes and multi-tier barricades were stationed along the shore to support the operation and manage the movement of deities and devotees into the water.

The convergence of thousands of devotees and transport vehicles led to severe vehicular congestion across central corridors. Heavy traffic built up at Khairatabad, NTR Marg, People’s Plaza, the Secretariat, and Tank Bund as trucks carrying idols moved toward the immersion zones.

Meanwhile, the pandal at Khairatabad saw massive footfall over the weekend. More than one lakh devotees visited the Khairatabad pandal between 10 am and 9 pm on Sunday, with crowds building steadily across the day.
