Gajwel Woman Dies by Suicide After Husband Forbids Her From Uploading Reels

A 35-year-old woman, Tejaswini, died by suicide in Gajwel in Siddipet district allegedly after her husband, Home Guard Gopal Reddy, objected to her constant reel-making. Following the tragic incident, local police registered a case.
Tejaswini had been married to Gopal Reddy for 11 years, and the couple had two children. She had recently launched a YouTube channel and remained active on social platforms, where she regularly created and shared video content.
Frequent domestic quarrels erupted between the couple over her online videos. The friction escalated further when Gopal Reddy forbade her from uploading reels to her accounts. Distressed over the confrontation, Tejaswini took the extreme step while she was alone at home.
The incident in Gajwel comes amid growing concerns over marital discord linked to reel-making. In another case highlighting the perils associated with social media, a man returned from abroad to kill his ex-wife in Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad, after tracking her address through reels she posted. These incidents have resulted in two fatalities—one suicide and one homicide—with police registering cases in both matters.
Addressing the rising tensions caused by online habits, psychologist Dr. Sripooja told Deccan Chronicle that the prevailing "reels culture" is sowing discord in marriages. She stressed that couples must adopt open mindsets and avoid taking things personally during disagreements over social media.
MLC Goreti Venkanna also cautioned the public against letting online content creation harm personal relationships. "Social media has increasingly become an integral part of human life. It brings both positive and negative aspects; how we use it makes the difference. We should use it for good and steer clear of the negative," he said.
He emphasized the need for emotional resilience and perspective among creators. "Young people who use social media and create reels, in particular, need to be mentally strong. They should ensure that misunderstandings do not arise between individuals. Above all, one should not put one’s life at risk for the sake of making reels," MLC Goreti Venkanna stated.
