Four Injured on Hunter Road as Speeding Car Rams Ice Cream Cart, Constable Critical

Four people, including an Intelligence department police constable and a married couple, were injured late on Sunday night after a speeding car allegedly driven by a youth under the influence of alcohol rammed into them on Hunter Road.

The injured constable, identified as 45-year-old Kasula Srinivas, a resident of Deshaipet, sustained severe injuries in the incident and was subsequently shifted to Hyderabad to receive advanced medical treatment. The three other individuals injured in the collision were identified as ice cream vendor N Rajesh, along with a couple travelling on a two-wheeler, identified as Suhal Rahul and his wife.

According to Matwada Inspector N Karunakar, Srinivas was on his way home after concluding his night duty when the collision took place. The constable had stopped near an ice cream cart situated opposite a temple, where he had parked his motorcycle and was sitting on it.

At the time of the incident, a car bearing registration number TS 24 J 3856 was travelling from Seven Mories towards Adalat Centre. The vehicle was allegedly being operated at high speed in a rash and negligent manner by the driver, who was identified as Kondaparthi Raju, a resident of Brundavan Colony on Hunter Road.

Police stated that Raju, who was under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the car. The vehicle initially crashed directly into the roadside ice cream cart before veering across the road and hitting the victims who were present in the immediate vicinity.

Following the crash, the driver was taken into custody by the Matwada police. The authorities have initiated formal procedures regarding the rash driving incident.
