Four Injured in Scaffolding Collapse at Malla Reddy University Campus Event

The Hyderabad police have registered two cases—one against the management of Malla Reddy University and another against Shreyas Media—after four persons were injured when a scaffolding structure collapsed during a film pre-release event on the university campus on Saturday.

The incident occurred during the celebrity promotional programme when members of the audience attempted to scale the temporary setup. Video footage from the venue showed several people trying to climb a scaffolding structure that was also supporting a heavy sound box. Unable to bear the additional load, the structure gave way and fell over under their weight, leaving four individuals injured.

Police officials stated that serious safety and regulatory violations were observed regarding both the attendance numbers and the timing of the gathering. The university authorities had obtained official permission for the event by citing an estimated turnout of approximately 7,000 attendees. However, the actual crowd swelled far beyond the permitted capacity, with nearly 20,000 people reportedly turning up at the campus grounds.

Authorities also pointed out that the event organisers failed to adhere to the stipulated schedule. The organizers had initially indicated that the pre-release programme would wrap up by 10 pm. Instead, the function was extended well past the permitted deadline, continuing until around 11 pm.

Following the collapse and the resulting injuries, the police cited the massive surge in crowd numbers, inadequate safety arrangements, and extended event hours as grounds for booking cases against both the host institution's management and the event organisers.
